DESY develops novel monolithic active pixel detectors (MAPS) for particle physics experiments at future colliders and other applications. Furthermore, DESY is developing and supporting several tools widely used in the detector R&D community such as semiconductor simulation software and integrated readout systems. For the development of a new generation of prototypes in a 65nm imaging technology and a vertex detector demonstrator in international cooperation with world-leading institutes, DESY is looking for a researcher with a focus on device simulation as well as test beam characterisation studies. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team pushing silicon detectors to the next level and will have the unique opportunity to shape the development of detector concepts and prototypes for the next generation of particle physics experiments.

About your role:

• TCAD device and Monte Carlo simulations of monolithic pixel sensors
• Development and support of analysis and simulation software for pixel prototypes
• Development and support of laboratory and test beam characterisation for pixel prototypes

Limited: 2 years

About you:

• Ph.D. in physics, mathematics or engineering or equivalent qualification
• Experience in TCAD or Monte Carlo simulations / sensor studies or data acquisition systems for silicon detectors
• Deep interest in detectors for particle physics, especially in silicon detector technology
• Very good teamwork, communication and presentation skills
• Good programming skills
• Good English language skills
